To paraphrase a character in the ‘Fast Show’. This week I ‘ave mostly been working with App-V 5.0. More accurately I have been sequencing applications with version 5.0 of the sequencer and testing out the conversion process to get my App-V 4.6 SP1 sequenced applications ready to be ported over to my App-V 5.0 environment. Converting couldn’t be easier in fairness to Microsoft.
Here’s the steps I have been using:
- I run the following in Powerhsell (x86) : Test-AppVLegacyPackage “Path” – This will check to see if everything in your application will work in the new version. Due to the format changes, some apps may not convert completely.
- If all checked out ok. I then run the following also in Powershell (x86) : ConvertFrom-AppVLegacyPackage “Path” “PathToSendTo” – This converts an application and saves the output to the new path
For examples of these commands please read on:
Here’s a screenshot as an example of Step 1. The Test package part doing it’s thing. You can see at the top, I got a warning about a registry setting I had set via the OSD in 4.6 SP1, this will not carry over since the OSD format has now changed in version 5.0. Also below is an example of when there was nothing fishy in the app for be converted.
And finally a screenshot as an example of the actual conversion.
And if you don’t want to do it one by one you could look at this useful script that one of the beautiful people of the IT community threw together. Sharing is caring!
