Recently, I posted a blog on how to setup Unidesk and covered Unidesk with RDS and Hyper-V, which you can find HERE. During my setup, I captured my steps for setting up RDS. This is something most people can do very easily but in the interest of preserving my setup notes, I figure I will upload this here and it may be useful to others.
Go to Add Roles and Features in Server 2012 Server Manager, select role based, proceed and check the boxes as above. We will also require IIS.
Check the boxes as above and click Next >
In this example, I selected to check all boxes for RDS. In other setups I have setup these services across multiple servers. It’s up to you. Click Next >
Check the boxes above for IIS, Usually boxes are checked automatically. Click Next >
Check the box above and Click Next >
Click Install
In Roles and Features, now select Remote Desktop Services Installation. Click Next >
Click Next >
At this point you can select Virtual Desktops or Session Based…If using with Unidesk, that actually supports both. Click Next >
Click Next >
In my example, I did install all RDS Service on the same server. At this point, I can just add all roles to my server. Click Next >
Add Server, Click Next >
Add Server, Click Next >
Click Deploy
Now you can click on the Green + symbols to configure the services. I started with the Gateway.
Again, add the server and click Next >
Enter the Fully Qualified Domain Name for your server and Click Next >
Click Add
Click Close
Click RD Licensing
Add the Server again. Click Next >
Click Add
Click Close
Click Tasks and then Click Edit Deployment Properties
At this point, We’re going to add an encryption cert
Enter information for your certificate
Click OK
Click OK
If you would like, you could also add the role for Virtual Desktops. Click Next >
When you have all roles and go to Deployment Properties, you see that the Status is OK for all.
Under Active Directory I can store what OU my machines get created\staged in. Click Apply, OK
You’ve already included your RD Licensing on the Server. So Now, Add it.
Go to the RDS Licensing shortcut
On your Server, right click and click Activate
Click Next >
Click Next >
Pass company information and Click Next >
Add more company info. Click Next >
Click Next >
